Middle School Outdoor Education
El Rodeo Middle School Outdoor Education Trips 2009-2010
Each year, El Rodeo middle school students take a grade level outdoor education trip that provides an educational experience outside of the school site. These trips are designed to promote the learning needs of the whole child; emotionally, academically and socially. The foundation of these trips is based on grade level science standards and leadership experiences. Perhaps, most importantly, the life skills of independence, friendship and community are the most lasting of the experiences that students take away from these experiences. Students must meet citizenship and service point requirements to be eligible to attend trips.

Malibu Outdoor Education Trip 11/4 – 11/6
September 9, 2009
Dear 6th Grade Parents and Students,
We are very excited to announce that El Rodeo’s 6th grade will be participating in a unique outdoor education experience. As you are probably aware, our 7th graders spend 4 days in Santa Barbara at El Capitan and our 8th graders spend a week in Yosemite National Park. On all of these fantastic trips, our students experience the physical and natural history of the area. Unquestionably, these experiences will be fondly remembered by our students for many years.
This year, we are most fortunate to be able to continue our partnership with Wolf Adventures to conduct a three day outdoor education trip to Malibu. The school will be exclusively using the Hess Kramer/Hilltop facilities in Malibu. We offer an instructional program that includes a ropes course, tide pools, hiking, team building, and many other opportunities for our 6th graders to grow as individuals, leaders, and connect as a group.
A parent meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, October 1st at 6:00 PM in the auditorium. All 6th grade parents are invited. A representative from Wolf Adventures will be on site to discuss the specifics of the program.
The date of this year’s trip will be November 4th – 6th. Students will leave El Rodeo on Wednesday morning at 7:00 AM and return to El Rodeo Friday afternoon around 3:00 P.M. This is our seventh year participating in this amazing experience and the staff is very excited about their role as chaperones and instructional leaders. Additional information will be provided in the packet we will be passing out to you at the meeting.
Thank you for understanding that this meeting is for parents only. The students will be having their own meeting during school hours.
Sincerely,
April Silva Malibu Coordinator
